Guatemala- 2.000 pessoas manifestaram-se contra a política migratória dos Estados Unidos e contra o tratado de livre troca celebrado entre os dois países.Os manifestantes protestam contra a visita presidencial de George W. Bush que chegou à Guatemala na noite de domingo , devendo se reunir esta noite com o seu homólogo Oscar Bergere. Direitos Humanos: Governo não reconhece legitimidade aos EUA


O Governo português não reconhece legitimidade ao Departamento de Estado norte-americano para fazer comentários sobre os direitos humanos em Portugal, disse hoje à Lusa fonte do Ministério da Administração Interna (MAI).

A reacção do MAI surge na sequência do relatório do Departamento de Estado norte-americano, o qual aponta críticas a Portugal, nomeadamente abusos das forças de segurança, más condições das cadeias, recurso excessivo da prisão preventiva e tráfico de mão-de-obra estrangeira e de mulheres.

Em declarações à agência Lusa, fonte do gabinete do MAI disse que o «governo português não reconhece legitimidade ao Departamento de Estado norte-americano para fazer comentários sobre os direitos humanos em Portugal».

A mesma fonte adiantou ainda que o «Governo aprecia sempre com grande atenção, os relatórios de organismos não-governamentais como a Amnistia Internacional», bem como os relatórios de outros organismos como o Conselho da Europa e das Nações Unidas.
